Unrealized Sound Design Dracula
The 2007 version of Dracula was written by William McNulty. This interpretation of Bram Stoker's Dracula contains many of the same plot elements with the exception of the characters of Lucy and Mina being switched. The play takes place in 1898 England during the Victorian era and the start of the Industrial Revolution. For my sound design, I focused on duality. I really wanted to contrast the supernatural with the natural to highlight the darkness in humanity. With the ominous & supernatural elements, I focused on a few different elements: low frequencies to create an unsettling feeling, especially when Dracula is around and evolving of the wolf howls: from natural to demonic. For the natural, I focused on the storm and creating realistic reverberations in the castle. These two elements played such a big role in this play, I wanted to emphasize that and create drama.
